Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of the graded attention training using a computerized cognitive program on memories and ADL of the demented elderly. The changing criterion design was used for the elderly with mild dementia. As an independent variable, one of computerized cognitive programs(Rehacom), the attention program was conducted total 16 times(four times per week and for 15 minutes per session) with each subject, after controling the stage according to subjects` cognitive levels. The changes in Rehacom`s attention grades, memories (Digit Span and Rey Complex Figure Test) and the change of AMPS were used as dependent variables. The graded attention training enhanced attention of all the subjects, and improved not only memories, but ADL, too. The graded computerized cognitive program was appropriate for the demented elderly who are difficult to motivate and generalize treatment effects, because it is easy to use and allows tailored treatment depending on individual levels. Thus, further researches need to analyze improvement of cognitive functions and maintenance effects of the graded computerized cognitive program not only for the aged with mild dementia, but for patients with a wide cognitive impairment.
